A fun fall fixing for your next fire.
Backyard bonfires and s’mores season is upon us! Sweeten your next gathering with these delicious treats, fun for kids and grownups alike!
What you’ll need:
Cupcake Mix or Store-bought Cupcakes
White Icing
Red or Orange Food Coloring
Mini Marshmallows
Mini Pretzels
Chocolate Icing (Optional)
Icing bag with a closed star tip, or sandwich bag
DIRECTIONS:
Bake your cupcakes following the instructions, or unpackage your store-bought cupcakes.
If you are baking your own cupcakes, be sure not to overfill the cups. In order to decorate the top, you want your cupcake to be fairly flat, so only fill the cups 1/2 to 2/3 full.
Allow cupcakes to cool completely before decorating
Apply a thin layer of icing to the top of the cupcake. For my cupcakes, I used chocolate icing in this step, to blend in more with the cupcake and add an extra chocolately flavor!
Take three pretzels, and break them in half. Laying them flat, arrange them
in a star shape on your icing. These are your logs for your campfire and the base of the rest of the decoration.
In a small bowl, mix your white icing and food coloring. Start with 3-4 drops and add as needed until you reach your desired color. This will be your flames!
Scoop the icing into an icing bag with a closed star tip, or a sandwich size plastic bag.
For a more advanced effect, mix one bowl of icing with red food coloring, and another bowl with orange food coloring. Then, using a knife or small spatula, scoop alternating colors onto the sides of the icing bag.
If using a sandwich bag with no tip, press all the icing into a corner of the bag. Then cut the corner of the bag off. Holding the bag upright, with the cut corner pointed down, gently squeeze the icing out into small points, making the individual flames.
a. Don't be afraid to get creative with it, playing with the sizes, shapes, and placement of the flames. No fire looks the same, so make it unique to your vision!
If using a closed star tip, holding the bag upright, place the tip in the center of the cupcake, so it is just touching the surface. Then, with a consistent pressure, squeeze the icing bag while gently moving it directly up. This will create the pyramid- like flame shape seen in the picture.
Take a sixth mini-pretzel. Sticking a marshmallow on one end, insert the other end in the icing. Enjoy!
